Urban Legends

Urban legends are those shocking emails that report false happenings in order to get a reaction out of people or ruin a reputation. Emails that do not have a source, are written in large font, and encourage you to forward the email to everyone you know are likely urban legends.

Some urban legends are ridiculous, like the one about the two hundred pound army dog that is saving the world. Others are down right mean when they tell lies about charities or sick children. Elected officials and celebrities are sometimes the targets of absurd urban legends.

You can verify the validity of incoming emails by googling the topic and urban legend or by checking it out on the snopes website at www.snopes.com.
