Tomatoes

Homegrown tomatoes are the best. When you grow your own tomatoes you know where they came from. You do not have to worry about how they were handled before being purchased.

Tomatoes are low in calories, sweet, and delicious. Tomatoes are healthy to eat, because they contain lycopene, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, and fiber.

Lycopene is the pigment that makes tomatoes red. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that can fight cancer cells. Cooking fresh tomatoes helps to increase lycopene absorption. Cooking your tomatoes with a little olive oil will increase lycopene absorption even more.

Vitamin C helps maintain a healthy immune system.

Vitamin A is important for both vision and bone growth.

Vitamin K is essential for the functioning of several proteins involved in blood clotting, and keeps you from bleeding too much.

Fiber helps maintain healthy digestion and elimination.
