According to a recent Gallup poll of one million people, the number one reason people quit their job is “a bad boss”. Toxic Bosses lack leadership skills, do not communicate well, and abuse their subordinates.
Great leaders are not intimidated by the expertise of their followers. Bosses who are effective leaders get things done by knowing the strengths of their followers. Great bosses know how to communicate, encourage team building, and bring out the best in people.
Having a lousy boss can raise your blood pressure, cause you to lose sleep, make your life miserable, and negatively affect your health. You can document the behavior of your mean boss and complain to Human Resources or whomever your boss answers to. Your boss might be counseled, or you could be called a complainer. Your boss may lie, retaliate, and create a work environment that is even more unpleasant.
Challenging your toxic boss may stress you out even more, and affect your physical and emotional health. Sometimes having a toxic boss can be a good thing, because you will be motivated to find a better job or start the business of your dreams.
When you quit your job, you are really firing your boss.
