Did you ever hear the expression "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth"?
You can tell the age of a horse by looking at the teeth. The gift giver could be insulted if you look at the horse's mouth to see the age and value of the horse.
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth means don't complain when you are receiving something for free.
