Lavenders are popular plants. The fragrant, pale purple flowers are used in flower arrangements and potpourris. The dried flowers are placed in pouches and stored with clothing to deter moths and make clothes smell nice. Lavender oil is used as an antiseptic and for aromatherapy.
Lavender is believed to keep the Plague away. Fleas do not like lavender. Since fleas spread the Plague, lavender scented clothes would have been one way to help keep the Plague away.
