Place pots of basil or mint near doors and windows to help deter flies.
Keep animals away from trash cans - mix 2 tablespoons dish soap with 2 tablespoons cayenne pepper in one quart warm water. Splash around trash cans to discourage animals. This mixture tends to clog a spray bottle.
Ants do not like areas sprayed with vinegar.
Dog hair helps keep squirrels away from a garden.
